Job Description Exciting Opportunity for a Passionate Pathologists Assistant!
Job Description:
- Seeking a New York State licensed (current or by start date) Pathologists Assistant to cover an exciting FMLA at our main hospital.
- Assignment set to begin on 1/4/2027, spanning four months (dates may be adjusted slightly).
- Work schedule: Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM (no weekends or on-call shifts).
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform cutting and staining of frozen sections.
- Manage an average of 200 blocks daily.
- Process specimens, including:
- Breast resections
- Uterus resections
- Lung and colon resections
- Triage fresh tissue for lymphoma work-ups.
- Identify glomeruli in medical renal cores.
- Collaborate with a team of 4 pathologists and 6 histotechs.
Requirements:
- NY State license is required at the time of submission.
- American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) certification as a Pathologists Assistant.
- Minimum of 1 year experience in a hospital clinical laboratory setting.
- Proficient in Epic charting system.
- Exceptional skills in:
- Macroscopic description of gross anatomic features
- Gross examination and dissection of small and large specimens
- Preparation of tissues for histological processing
- Obtaining biological samples for flow cytometry
- Reviewing patient clinical information (scans, X-rays, lab results).
Local Rule:
- Candidates must have a permanent residence beyond 50 miles from specified counties (e.g., Albany, Rensselaer, Saratoga).
Orientation and Compliance:
- Completion of necessary modules before the start date is mandatory.
